Drainage improvements on Portholme Meadow

Environmental Agency Article

Work to improve drainage on Portholme Meadow, Huntingdon, will be taking place in late September 2010 to help re-establish rare types of grassland that are currently not in good condition.

Vegetation on parts of Portholme Meadow, believed to be the largest ancient water meadow in the UK, has been found to be in unfavourable condition due to the amount of curled dock present. Curled dock is an invasive weed which degrades the quality of the natural grassland.
